On 3 August, Daniel and Friends Fund, in collaboration with Projek BieTjie Liefde, spend our Mandela Day project at Sive Nathi Licensed Home in Blackheath. This was our second annual Mandela Day outreach at Sive Nathi.
The day entitled the uplifting of their one courtyard via volunteers painting various encouraging messages and colourful pictures. The theme for this year - Let your true colors shine and never stop dreaming. We believe that everyone can dream even if you are differently abled.
Sive Nathi provides 24-hour care to children who are profoundly challenged mentally and/or physically, as well as in some cases face an additional challenge of being HIV positive. Sive Nathi also strives to improve the quality of life of those in their care and provide them with a family as their parents have either passed away, cannot cope with their disability or simply abandoned them. The home currently accommodates 40 children and the daily care they provide includes ensuring a balanced, healthy diet, making sure the children are kept clean and comfortable, facilitating regular exercise and taking care of their medical needs. Some of the children are currently going to Astra School which specializes in physically-challenged children.
We would like to thank all involved making this day a possible. Without sponsors and volunteers this could not have been such a success.
Thank you to all the volunteers offering up their time - we appreciate you more than words can say.
